This game is just incredible! This game is another great game that Sega made to add to the Shining series. People who love the 1st person labyrinth type RPGs such as Shining in the Darkness and Phantasy Star I should definitely give this game a try. Fans of the Shining series must not skip on playing this game.
Gameplay 10/10
I'd say that this game is pretty easy to pick up for the first time and figure it out. Veterans would have no trouble at all. First timers to games such as this would not have any problems learning to play even though the game has a small learning curve. Battles are incredible with the vast weapons and spells at your disposal as well as the new Pixie system. Upon finding pixies hidden throughout the game, you are able to utilize them in order to gain a pre-emptive strike on enemies as well as extra gold and experience points which most of the time gives you the upper hand in battles. Even though you only can fight with 4 characters at one time, you are able to sub in more when they become available and they are needed. Towns, forests, caves, and other types of dungeons make up the places that you will explore in the game which are enormous and full of hidden treasures. The puzzles present in the game are very challenging and may be very tough for some and might be tough enough to discourage people from playing (The Mirage Tower puzzle took me about 2 months to complete...it's very simple once you understand it), but it is very rewarding to stick with it and solve them. You can definitely get very absorbed in this game!
Graphics 10/10
The graphics in this game are awesome and revolutionary for its time. The enemies' sprites are very detailed as well as the characters in your party and townspeople. The backgrounds are also very detailed to point that some of the pictures found on walls in the game are just incredible. Some of the characters cast summon spells which are spectacular sites to see and will amaze players. The FMVs found in the game seem very lifelike and are awesome.
Shining the Holy Ark is a rare game that is a well known but should be tried and that is getting much harder to find anymore. I do have a copy on my web site.
