Emperor Zog is trying to find the six goddess keys so he can free the goddess of destruction, Tyr, who will grant his evil wish to rule the world. It's up to Ryu(though you can name him anything you wish), the last of the Light Dragon clan, and 7 of his companions to put an end to Zog's rein of terror. Should they fail, the world will surely be plunged into eternal darkness... Breath of Fire is similar to many mainstream RPGs in that you go from town to town gathering information about your next task. Of course, these towns also sell items, weapons, and armor. Battles are turn based like most RPGs. You can have only 4 characters at once in battle, but you can substitute characters once you have more than 4 in your party. Your commands are fight, use magic, run, or use an item. Fortunately, the game included an automatic battle system that is useful for speeding up battles in case you run into monsters that are significantly weaker than your party. This feature is a big time saver
