"Another obscure NES title that deserves a second look...or perhaps a first."
"An original and challenging game. One of my favourites."
One of the world's lesser known games from the time when games were designed to be fun rather than for the quality of the graphics. The result of this....well an odd but rather enjoyable game.
Graphics - 8
For the NES, these graphics are remarkably good. They are cartoony without being riculous and the backgrounds a actually quite detailed without looking blocky and drab. What's best though is Rad's expressions when, eg. he jumps or shoots.
Sounds - 6
This is probably the game's weak spot. The sound effects are good and appropriate and the music is catchy (especially the boss music: some of the best I've heard). The only thing is that there's only one music for the levels throughout the game and after a while it gets really, really tedious.
Gameplay - 9
This is some of the best gameplay I have seen in a platform game. The character responds to the buttons you actually press and how long you press them putting you in easy control of the character. Also the space exploration and teleport functions are so orriginal and fun that they really make the game. The game is also jam packed with secrets and bonuses, not to mention some inventive puzzles.
Lifespan - 7
Good honest fun that's good to come back to. It's funny and orriginal (just look at the upside down plannet Turvia). The chances are that you won't find anything new in it the second and third times but the orriginality and fun factor will keep you interested for quite a while.
Plot - 7
You play the intergalactic space hero, Rad Gravity as he embarks on a quest to reactivate the Unification computers, deactivated by the dangerous Agathos, to save the galaxy. It's a little cliched I know but it's a tried and tested formula. This a nifty plot twist at the end (which I won't spoil) and you get drawn into the individual miniplots on each planet. It's really like a combination of an RPG and a platform game
Adventures of Rad Gravity is a rare game that is well known but should be tried and that is getting much harder to find anymore. I do have a copy on my web site.
